Overview
The Bachelor of Early Childhood Education prepares graduates to work in both early childhood and primary educational contexts. The course structure provides a community and school-based approach to teacher education with substantial opportunities for students to pursue studies in early childhood education and primary school education. This professional degree qualifies them to work as a teacher in preschools and long day care as a four-year trained teacher, as well as preparing them for employment in other parts of the children’s and family services sector.
Program Aim
The degree aims to develop early childhood teachers who can integrate theoretical knowledge into practical education and care skills in the workplace. As well as learning the skills required of an early childhood teacher, the graduates will study child development and pedagogical practices, welfare, ethics, diversity and social justice. The graduates will also develop knowledge and skills in management, leadership and advocacy which will extend the range of employment opportunities they will have on graduation. The primary aims of the programme are:
PA1: Introduce students to the fundamentals of early childhood learning.
PA2: Nurture future teachers who are responsive to the needs of teaching to children in their early childhood
PA3: Develop students to be competent individuals; equipped with teaching proficiency and other necessary skills to teach effectively.
PA4: Expose students to the issues of contemporary childhood education.
PA5: Cultivate students to become responsible individuals with integrated personality who can become role models to the future generation.
