It caters to teachers-educators seeking focused development, career advancement, and a smoother transition to a Master’s programme, all within the framework of the European Qualifications Framework.


Programme Aims

The PGDE aims to:

  • Enhance educators’ expertise in areas like digital educational technology, curriculum design, and leadership.
  • Prepare educators for leadership roles by developing skills in leadership, curriculum design, and administration.
  • Cultivate critical thinking and research skills for practical application in educational settings.
  • Foster reflective practice to improve professional development.

There will be infusing of practicalities around increased knowledge; Along with this is advanced academic training:

  • The ability to compare, contrast and critique the work of other academics
  • The synthesis of theory and the practical application
  • The appreciation of the complexities of the subject and the ability to discuss these through a variety of lenses

  • Being factual and scientific in approach

Programme & Curriculum Structure

The PGDE consists of six 10-ECTS core modules, totaling 60 ECTS at EQF Level 7, delivered over approximately 30 weeks. Modules include:

  • Instructional Leadership & Management
  • Strategic Management & Leading Change
  • Digital Education
  • Organisational Culture and School Improvement
  • Education Research Methodology


Entry Requirement

Applicants must demonstrate the potential to benefit from and meet the programme’s objectives. Entry requirements include:

  • A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
  • Professional qualifications with relevant work experience.
  • Mature candidates with significant work experience and supervisory roles.
  • Proficiency in English.
  • Teaching and Learning Strategies

The programme emphasizes independent, reflective learning through online resources, self-instructional materials, live tutorials, and online discussions. Learning is facilitated rather than taught, encouraging self-exploration and meta-learning.


Assessment Strategy

Assessment involves End Point Assessment (EPA) through a Reflective Learning Log and Professional Development Portfolio. Students document their professional growth, knowledge acquisition, and achievements throughout the programme, focusing on module-specific learning outcomes. The portfolio must be submitted within two months of completing the modules.
