CERTIFICATE IN AUDIOMETRY

Course Objectives

Upon completing the course the students would possess the competency to perform the following:

• Conduct case history: be able to probe for and gather information regarding the patients hearing condition and concomitant factors.
• Perform Pure Tone Audiometry with Air Conduction and Bone Conduction masking.
• Determine if a hearing loss is present: if yes the type and degree of the hearing loss.
• Determine how the hearing loss may be impeding the patients’ communication ability and quality of life.
• Conduct Immittance Audiometry and interpret the results.
• Correlate PTA and Immittance findings and make the appropriate recommendation for a hearing aid or an ENT referral.
• Carryout a hearing aid trial successfully and tune a semi digital as well as a fully digital hearing aid according to the patient’s satisfaction.
• Counsel patients to increase their acceptance level for a hearing aid and give instructions regarding the care and use of hearing aids.
• Develop a rehabilitation program to ensure optimal use of hearing aid through sessions of fine tuning and counseling.
• Make the appropriate recommendations for children who are suspect of having a hearing impairment: which diagnostic evaluations need to be carried out.
• Interpret ABR and OAE results and make hearing aid recommendations based upon those results.
• Handle clients effectively, responsibly with the utmost courtesy and professionalism to ensure their experience in the audiology department is pleasant and memorable.

Admission Criteria:

The admission criteria may be flexible in accordance with the managements’ decision.

Education:

Minimum Requirement: Candidates who have successfully completed Ordinary Level and Advanced Level Examinations. Candidates must have achieved a minimum requirement of a simple pass (S) for all subjects that they have attempted.

The subjects at the Advanced Level Examination:

Biology, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, Commerce

Age:

Must be between 19-28 years on the last day set for receiving applications.

Duration of the Course:

1 year
