You’ll gain awareness, an understanding of, and competence in, the design, management, construction and renovation of structures.Assessment methodsAssessment methods vary from module to module, however assignments and case studies form a significant part of the assessment process. You may also be required to develop reports and designs for assessment.Assignments may be essays, case studies, reports and designs. They are investigative in nature, enabling you to develop principles, analyse, critically appraise and evaluate relevant issues, demonstrating your creativity and sustainable thinking.Careers and employabilityMentoring and supportDuring your research project/dissertation, full-time students will be allocated an NTU supervisor, whilst part-time students will have the chance to be mentored by a nominated Employer Tutor alongside their NTU supervisor. This will probably be a line manager who will be willing to act as a mentor to you during the course, supporting you throughout the course and specifically during the Research Project/Dissertation module. The Employer Tutor will also be a point of contact, and represent your employer to discuss your progress.Course accreditationThis course is accredited by the Joint Board of Moderators of the Engineering Council, satisfying the educational requirements necessary for advancement to Chartered Engineer status with the following professional bodies:- the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), the Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE), the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation (CIHT) and the Institution of Highway Engineers (IHE), and will give you the opportunity to gain the necessary knowledge and skills to progress into a senior management role in civil engineering.
For students from Sri Lanka
Student need to hold Sri Lankan Degree at Second Class Lower, 50% or GPA 2.7 for 2:2 and Second Class Upper for 2:1 for entry to masters courses. IELTS: 6.5 with a minimum of 5.5 in each component.Students will need: 2:2 honours degree in civil engineering or an appropriate built environment subject area. We will also consider applicants with the following qualifications: Postgraduate diploma, or equivalent academic achievement in civil engineering or appropriate built environment subject area. Applicants with non-standard entry qualifications and/or relevant experience will be considered on an individual basis. Assessment of your experience will confirm that you have achieved the necessary skills in the course of your general experience. Students should have an IELTS 6.5 with a minimum of 5.5 in each component. TOEFL iBT - Overall score of 81 with at least 10 Reading, 9 Listening, 17 Speaking, 19 Writing.

IELTS (Academic only) - 7.0 (or better) (no component lower than 7.0); TOEFL (paper based) - 600 (or better) (with a minimum Test of Written English Score of TWE 5); TOEFL (electronic or computer based) - 250 (or better) (with essay rating of at least 5); TOEFL (internet based) - 95 (or better) (with 22 minimum in all bands); Pearson (PTE Academic) - 65 (or better) (with no communicative score less than 65); Cambridge English Scale Scores for FCE, CAE and CPE - Cambridge English Advanced (CAE) and Cambridge English Proficiency (CPE)/ 185 or above. No less than 185 in each skill.
